IPRA Takes Its Place Among Prestigious Web Sites
In the company of tourism champions, the International Professional Rodeo Association received the Red Bud Award for best new web page. Hosted by Jane Jaroe of the Oklahoma Tourism Department, the Cox Center seated House of Representatives, and Oklahoma business members including Eskimo Joes’ Stan Clark, all who received awards for their positive impact on Oklahoma Tourism. Its own award winning web designer of 202 South Web Designs, Tammy McQuaid, represented the IPRA.

Along with numerous other web designers, tourism officials, and magazine editors, the Red Bud Award was presented to twelve worthy recipients. Divided into marketing categories McQuaid received the award because of her design and marketing success with the IPRA web page. Among more than 72 entries IPRArodeo.com now boasts of a Red Bud Award. The prestigious recognition is for new Oklahoma web pages that create a positive impact for Oklahoma and Oklahoma Tourism.

McQuaid faced many challenges when she took on the task of building a web site for the IPRA. The professional rodeo association, new to the internet was at first apprehensive to the usefulness and impact of a website. “Building an audience and making the organization aware of what they could communicate with the web site,” McQuaid said was her first challenge. “I knew the association could save money and at the same time reach a larger audience.” She began her research as she does with any client; discovering marketing strategies and target audiences.

The research began with a phone call to the editor of ProRodeo World magazine, Todd Newville. “He helped me understand the different events and the statistics of the sport,” McQuaid said. Not from a rodeo background was some what of an advantage. Now McQuaid could reach the rodeo fan but a new audience as well. With over 8,000 visitor sessions a week success is obvious.

IPRArodeo.com provides a tool like any positive marketing strategy. “It is not just a tool for the IPRA staff,” McQuaid said. The website displays a weekly photo gallery that exhibits the creative talent of IPRA photographers. Contestants can see up to date results, rodeo schedules, standings, and photos. Filled with news stories and press releases the site is easy to use and updated weekly.

The IPRA has known a comfortable home in the Oklahoma City Stockyards but has now found a home in cyberspace reaching rodeo fans old and new.
